MIS Neutral inks problem

MIS Neutral inks problem

2002-04-07 by flyfishingusa2002

Hi All,
I have two questions regarding the new MIS neutral inks.

The first is that it appears that the inks give a denser step wedge
in the 99% - 60% range, does anyone else notice this? In fact if you
look at the files section and the recently published comparision you
can see the difference for yourself. I find that the end result is a
high contrast image with little in the 3/4 tone area. Could it be
that one of the inks is too dense?

The second question that I have is regarding the use of the
densitometer that I recently aquired. I purchased one to first of
all check my step wedge from time to time and to try to set up my
monitor to match my printed wedge. The problem that I have is that
my densitometer reads reflected density as a log10 i.e. my max
density is typically 1.59 with using the Neutral inks and EAM. the
equation that I have is Density= log 10/R
I am hoping that one of the technical wizards out there can tell me
how to calculate R. I then can give a absolute figure to each of the
density wedges and then calculate the percentage comparision to the
100% step. See where I am going?
Thanks to anyone who can help. In fact to the person(s) that help me
resolve this issue, if they care to mail me a 21 step wedge, I will
measure their individual steps!

Barry: A little more info please. What printer and what workflow
are you using with your MIS FS-N inkset? I may (probably?) have miss
something, but I am not aware of any workflows written specifically
for the FS-N quad or hextone inkset.

Thanks.

Jeff,
I am using a 3000 with the Jon Cone driver. I believe that there is
a workflow available for the FS-N inks in the files section of the
forum.
