A Note on Optical Brighteners
2002-04-09 by Martin Wesley
While Optical Brightening Agents will fade out with time and likely fade to yellow, we should remember that all the big name silver fiber papers use them too. So if we generally consider these silver papers to be archival, I wouldn't rule out an inkjet paper just on the basis of OBA's alone. Given the lower Dmax of inkjet we can use all the help we can get to expand the range of the papers at the other end. Eclipse Satin is a good example. While sunlight exposure is a good test of the relative performance of inks and papers I really don't expect my work to be displayed in direct sunlight. I would consider that to void the warentee of either my silver or ink prints. Martin
