I was using the cis and had to remove the tops that hold the original 
ink cartridges in place.

didn't have to cut anything just had to remove the lids, butof course 
stupid me didn't keep them....I have already sold it

Oh - those things!!  Then you had to cut away the cover to use the CIS. I've
been avoiding that, much as I would like to have a CIS.  I got an extended
warranty so I don't want to mess up the works. With a cut-away lid you might
as well just use the sponge wedges to hold the carts in place. Did you sell
your 980 yet? Maybe we could do a deal. They are great printers even for
just text - very fast.
