Variation on an 1160 clog

I just finished fixing a clog that I got on my black ink on my 1160 using MIS FS inks and an MIS CIS unit. I thought I'd report it to the list, since its another case that people might check on if they have similar problems. After not using my printer for a 2 week period, I was getting NO nozzles firing on the black ink. I did the recommended cleaning cycles (including printing the purge image) to no avail. Then I tried Windex on the cleaning pad and let the printer sit overnight. Still no luck. Finally I pulled the black CIS cartridge and checked the ink flow from the CIS bottles by attempting to pull ink from the bottom of the cartridge using a syringe - and discovered that the ink wasn't flowing through the CIS tube from the black bottle at all - it was 100% blocked. I removed the tubing from where it connects to the black cartridge and using a syringe attempted several times to pull ink directly through the tube. Finally the blockage cleared and ink started flowing through the tubing again. I'm not sure why the tube was blocked. To reinstall the CIS cartridge, I replaced the rubber seal in the bottom of the cartridge with a replacement seal (MIS sells these) that allowed me to reprime the cartridge using the vacumn unit applied to the bottle end of the tubing. It pulled back some ink in the process of creating a vacumn in the cartridge and tubing, but the ink did properly flow into the cartridge when the tubing was put into the black ink bottle (just as it does on an initial installation of the CIS). I reinstalled the black CIS cartridge into the printer and thankfully my black ink is printing properly again. Regards, Steve Dolha
