New to Photoshop 6. Which books to get?

New to Photoshop 6. Which books to get?

2002-04-24 by vtnn43e48073

I am new to Photoshop 6.0 and would like to find a good book that is
aimed at someone who is a photographer and not a graphic designer.
Since I know very little about PS the book I am looking for would
teach me the basics and work up from there.

Also can you suggest any other books that would be good for someone
who will only use PS 6.0 to print B&W?

BTW one thing that I am very interested in doing is making digital
negatives.

Thanks

Dan Burkholder is one of the experts in this field and
has published a book called "Making Digital Negatives
for Contact Printing." I haven't read it, but I'm
interested in attending one of his studio workshops
here in Dallas.

Zack,

I started using photoshop 2 years ago. At the time I found "Photoshop 5
Artistry" published by New Riders (ISBN 1-56205-895-9) to be the best in
terms of focusing on photography, and illustrating how the tools are used to
correct/optimize images. It, like most other books, focuses on colour
images. It also assumes a modest level of Photoshop skills so depending on
your familiarity with computers you may want a basic intro to Photoshop as
well.

The other book that I would recommend is Photoshop Restoration and
Retouching (ISBN 0789723182). This is a great book.

It takes most people quite a while to get 'proficient' with Photoshop so
don't get discouraged if it seems overwhelming initially.

As for printing quadtone B&W images this list is the best source if
information I have found.
