brightcube sem matte

brightcube sem matte

2002-04-30 by JULIANTHOMAS

I got my pack of Bright cube semi matte yesterday. I managed to edo
some quick tests last night, but my spray can ran out... so... initial
thoughts... (bear in mind this is subjective - I´ve not measured
anything nor had time to compare step wedges)

Pros.
Print quality - the smoothest tones I´ve had (compared to Ultima stain
and gloss, epson gloss and semi). Deep blacks, great midtones.
Surface - not too much palstic, not more RC then FBSprays easily (well
the two sheets I half sprayed did!
Now my paper of choice
Looks great matted and/or framed. I could sell this.

Cons
Too thin - I´d prefer a 300 gram sheet

I´ll bring prints and paper to the london meet Nij!

Glad to hear that you liked it Julian. I'm using it with the Epson Premium
Glossy profile in the Piezo driver...I screened all the glossy profiles and
found that one to be the best. I'm not sure what inks you are using, but
the MIS FS-N's are simply stunning on this paper. I print my "archival"
portfolio on Xtreme Gamut Satine (its no longer available...but I have a big
stock) with Piezo inks and now my "gloss" portfolio on Semi-Matte with the
FS-N's.

I too, wish it was a little heavier...we'll see...I've given that feed back
to Brightcube. I've also suggested that what they really need to do is put
that surface...acid free...on a paper like Eclipse Satine. Then we would
have an acid free archival glossy...that would really be interesting...but I
have no idea whether they will be able to do it.

Re: brightcube sem matte vs Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl

2002-05-01 by antonisphoto

Julian,

try the Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl: 280 gsm, prints with piezoBW inks
smoothly and holds an uncoated dmax of 1.94. Eggshell surface (like "real" =

RC paper), better than Epson Premium Luster. Still needs the Krylon
treatment, of course, like the rest.
