Scanners

2002-05-08 by Truman Prevatt

If anyone has input on scanners to consider (or eliminate) for scanning
black and white negatives, mostly 6x7 and a few 4x5's.
Please contact be privately.

Thanks
Truman

You may want to consider a used Howtek D4000 or D4500 drum scanner. They
run about $6500 on the used market and offer excellent quality.

Scanners

2004-12-04 by Rocco from Boston

Hi All,

Been reading here for about a year and am now getting ready to
purchase a film scanner. I searched the archives and wonder if there
is a strong scanner recommendation for archiving my BW, slide and
negs?

I want to stay under $600 and am intersted in anyones ideas, new,
used etc.

Thanks In Advance,

Roccoc

The Konica Minolt DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 is $6500
street,is supposed to be the best film scanner by
far.Make sure you put the SilverFast software in.I
have a Epson 4870 pro that I use for everything.I
think it fine for even 35 mm negs, again the
SilverFast software give you so many options, even
before you into Photoshop.Francis Ford

I have seen scans from this scanner and they look like crap, and I sure
hope you meant to say $650 not $6500. Check out the Nikons.

I've previously used the Nikon 4000 and just purchased the Elite 5400. I set preferences to 5400 dpi,8bit, 16x and get beautiful results. I use none of the scanner adjustments, doing that in PS CS plus a post capture sharpener. I'm surprised to hear anyone getting poor results.
