Dye based quads - no curves required - interest?
2001-08-24 by Terry & Nancy
I have a generic question and am just looking for some feedback. A friend posed this question to me and I thought the group members here would be able to provide their thoughts and feedback. At this point it is just a thought, but if the interest would be there this friend has the ability to produce it. Here goes: "What do you think the interest would be for a non-archival dye based quadtone set? I have been wanting one for the past year, and nobody will make one. I have had an idea of how to make a quadtone set work on a 6 color epson without special drivers OR curves AND without crossover of dot densities for a while now. Guessing at least 5-10 years under average conditions - not for fine art but great for portfolios and general consumer use." To elaborate a little further these inks will print on any paper that the normal Epson dye based inks will. I thought that the interest may be there for quick and easy general use and portfolio type work - In other words those that like the Epson printers without having to jump through the hoops of curves etc... to make an acceptable B/W print. Thoughts? I have been following the list since day one and will begin to contribute soon, tests/impressions in the works: 2000P curves for the MIS Variable Tone Inks - Paul and I are working our way through them now. (Yes, I am the guilty party that got him to try the Epson Photo paper - shame on me =) Allens Spectratone Inks - impressions, workflow, etc.. on the 2000P and 1270. Dye based first - Pigment later? <g> Impressions of a few different weights of Museo with the inks above and whatever other inks and papers that may show up at my door... General brain buggering and mayhem as we all go down this road together! TR PS - If your prints haven't faded 150 years from now send them to me for evaluation =)
