1160 lights blinking, does nothing....

2002-05-25 by Richard Sintchak

Ok, great. I just unwrapped my "new" refurb 1160 I just bought, and
following the directions to a "T" I loaded the inks and the ink
"charging" started to hum, click and buzz, then about a minute through
it stops and Power and Paper Out lights start to flash and the ink out
lights both turn a solid red (no blinking). According to the manual
this means I either forgot to peel off the yellow tape over the ink
cart vents (I didn't) or there's a paper jam (there isn't). Turing off
the printer, waiting a minute or two, then restarted ends up0 wit hte
same thing. Then it says to call Epson for service (damn!). Anyone had
this happen and can share ideas of what may be wrong or how I might
fix it myself? Or am I screwed? I mean, this was a freshly wrapped,
"new" in box, refurb! Don't they test these things before they go out
the door? Isn't that the whole idea behind a refurb?

Anyway, any comments welcomed.

Thanks.

Richard

Are you able to hold the paper feed button for 3 seconds and get the head to
move all the way to the left? If you were able to install the ink carts, I
assume you were already able to remove the tape that locks down the head for
shipping. Are you using a CFS system? If so, the head hasn't run over the
tubes and jammed, has it? It sounds like something has gotten under or hung
up on the head preventing its movements.

Just my $.02,
Doug
