First setup -To Paul and all

First setup -To Paul and all

2002-05-27 by André Vallejo

I finally received all the parts from MIS and two paper sample packs, put it
all together and started printing, with an Epson 980,MIS VM-Quads and Paul's
curves for the 1160,which seems to be the best matching. When printing to
EAM it\ufffds ok,to other papers, more or less, what is no surprise. Some questions
arose:

1. Even in EAM,using neutral curves,though I have a good screen-print
match,it lacks a little snap,a little contrast. Any kind of Paul's curve
tweeking could improve it?

2. Paul's definitions include sRGB color space.Why not Adobe RGB,that has a
wider gamut?

3. I like EAM for matte paper, but which could be the better choice for a
paper that resembles RC photographic paper. Glossy seems to shinning... The
closest that was in the sample packs was Generation Pro PhotoLustre, but it
still have a texture that may "harm" some images. Any hints? I also care
about archival qualities.

Why does gamut matter in black and white? I don't get it.

(Not intended as a criticism, but an honest question, I don't
understand and I would like to :) )
