Exactly which curves did you try? Are you on a PC? I believe some people
were able to use the curves Tyler Boley made. If you haven't tried them they
are in the Files section in folder:

Files > Ink Sets, reviews and techniques > MIS Variable Mix > 1280 PC MIS VM

The problem comes down to printer access...  I'm sure Paul could do the 
curves if someone sends him a 1290 and the right drivers...  ;-)
