Yahoo List Problems

Yahoo List Problems

2002-06-30 by Martin Wesley

Hi All,

I have gotten some off-list messages from people who have suddenly stopped getting e-mail from the group, we not able to subscriber or who are still getting mail after unsubscribing. I have been getting some double and triple copies of some posts. I would guess that there are probably others of you out there in similar situations.

My own attempts at correcting these problems through the limited tools Yahoo provides to Moderators have not helped.

So it looks like Yahoo is going through one of its periodic minor meltdowns. They usually seem to clear up in a few days so hang in there. Don't hesitate to contact me though if you are having a problem. I can at least give you a status report on your membership.

Martin

Started happening to me about a week and a half ago---all emails from
Yahoo groups just stopped. I changed my settings at Yahoo Groups to
another of my email addresses and they started coming again. Since
then I changed it back to again, and now works fine with the original
email address. Go figure.

Best regards,
 Richard

Hi Martin. For two days I have attempted to discontinue emials to me from
the list and instead view the posts via the web. I have been unable to stop
the emails. I am going to be out of town for several weeks. Any help you
can render is greatly appreciated. John Carroll

John, et al:

Before I went on vacation from June 5 - 19 I attempted to discontinue
e-mails from the list for that time. I had to try several times before the
settings "took". I experienced the same thing when I returned; it took a
couple of days before I was getting individual e-mails again. I'm on a Mac,
using Outlook Express, for what it's worth. My ISP is the University of
Massachusetts.

John, Stephen, All,

Well Yahoo definitely is wandering around in the ozone again with the
groups. As Stephen pointed out it seems to take several days for changes to
go into effect so multiple attempts to make changes may actually delay
things but I have no way of knowing for sure.

If you are trying to stop e-mail then the fastest and most effective cure is
to use the message tools in you e-mail software (Tools>Message Rules>Blocked
Senders, in Outlook Express) to block any in coming messages from the Group
and then turn it off when you get back.

For those of you who have stopped getting e-mail I have no solution other
than Richard's earlier suggestion to try an alternate e-mail address if you
have one. Might even try a free Yahoo address and have messages forwarded to
your regular address. But again be patient as it may take a few days for the
changes to take place. Or create a whole new Yahoo account, you can have
multiples, and try working through that.

Re: Yahoo List Problems - cookies

2002-07-01 by antonisphoto

In view of these new Yahoo problems, I thought I should mention a situation
with cookies.

I used to set my cookie prefs to "ask for each site". This way I could easily
decline marketing cookies and accept needed ones (subscriptions, accounts
etc).

A few months ago, Yahoo changed its behaviour and locked me out of its
groups unless I set my prefs to "accept all cookies". This was clearly a new
move on their part as it didn't affect getting to my account settings or yahoo
email. Just the groups. IOW, with cookies set to "ask", neither my group
membership was recognized nor my moderator or owner status.

The moral of the story - besides how aggressive Yahoo has become with its
marketing practices - is to check your cookie prefs in relation to any changes
of status to your Yahoo groups.

It's getting weirder....

My Internet Explorer cookie prefs are "decline" together with "never
ask", and they don't seem to give me a problem with Yahoo on my Mac.
I haven't tried "ask for each site" lately.

Is Yahoo's not-free lunch worth the pain? (was [Digital BW] Re: Yahoo List Problems - cookies)

2002-07-01 by Sam A. McCandless

The last time Yahoo got to be such a pain, there was some talk of
alternatives. And I think it was concluded then that there was no
better "free" - except for the pain - alternative to Yahoo. I can't
remember whether there was no better pay-for-it alternative or
whether a pay-for-it list was thought not feasible. But I think I'd
rather pay to subscribe than put up with Yahoo.

I'm with Sam, if we get to vote I'd pay to move this forum
from Yahoo. Of course I'm biased, as I'm one of those that
had my messages from Yahoo go missing for ~ several weeks.
That wouldn't be so bad except for the fact that Yahoo is
a black hole when it comes to trying to resolve such problems.
Even AOL is better at resolving problems.

My inquiries to Yahoo attempting to resolve the problems
with groups go unanswered.

My own theory is that Yahoo has a filter that trashes any inquires
for help. The moderators of this list are helpful but have about
the same power to resolve such problems as do the users.

paper slipping

2002-07-01 by Bill Agee

Have been using some heavy coated paper...Hahnemule Photo Rag 308 in
the 1270 with MIS inksets. After the first cartridge went through,
it seems the platen or whatever the intake wheels are called is
starting to slip and I have to take each sheet and give it a nudge to
go through. I suspect that the culprit is the coating put on the
paper to keep the ink from soaking in.

Any suggestions on how to clean the paper intake mechanism and wheels
to get it back going again on it's own? I set the paper setting to +
(plus) to allow for this thick paper.

Do you have an old "loading support sheet" like comes with each box of Epson
Archival Matte paper? You might try using that and see if it helps your
feeding problems. Just a thought...
