A while back I was considering buying an Apple flat panel display. I
went to my local Apple store and looked at all their flat panels
including the 15", 17", the Cinema display and the flat display on the
new iMAC. I made an interesting observation when carefully looking at
these monitors! The 15" & the iMac display exhibited a BIG density
change when you look at them from different angles on the vertical axis.
The 17" and the cinema display do not show this problem. When I
questioned the Apple staff at the store he told me that there was no
difference between the 15" display and the larger displays except their
size. This does not add up! They had a few of each size display set up
in the store and they all where consistent with my findings. There
certainly is a difference in these displays besides the SIZE difference!

Quite true. The 15" and the 22" came out about the same time. I have
a 15" as well and brightness does drop off more than the 17". I suspect
that the new 23" Cinema is the same technology as the 17". One
other observation is that if you figure out the ppi on the screen the
15 and 22 are about 85ppi but the newer 17 and 23 are close to 100ppi.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for responding to my questions about the monitor. It's
interesting what you found out about the differences in these
monitors.
As usual, the sellers offer little information about such
inconcistencies in their product line. It's hard to know which way to
turn without the benefit of valuable comments like yours based on
first
hand experience! I'm going for the 17" until the price of the larger
ones become more affordable.
