I like photo matte better than Epson archival/endurance matte in every
respect except one. You will get a slightly deeper black on the EAM/EEM
papers. About 3 percent darker or so. The Photo matte is whiter and
heavier than the epson paper. Very attractive for cold tone prints. Now
if we could only get the blacks just a hair darker...

RE: [Digital BW] Paper Questions

2002-08-05 by Doug Fisher

For what it is worth, I just called "Epson Connection" (at the suggestion of
the people at Atlex) in regard to the watermark issue on the EEM paper
(which is supposed to replace EAM). Epson finally transferred me to the
"pro graphics" department. The person there said that it is his
understanding that the EEM paper will still carry an Epson watermark on the
back. He also said the archival characteristics are exactly the same for
EEM and EAM.

I am still waiting for Atlex to confirm whether or not they have yet to
start shipping EEM instead of EAM.

So, for what that information is worth...

So, to get it without the watermark... InkJetart.com is "it."

Well, I have a nice 1000 sheet pack of A3 EEM/EAM without the watermark
I bought from them about two weeks back..

from their April newsletter:

"

ARCHIVAL MATTE AVAILABLE SOON WITHOUT "WATERMARK" ON BACK SIDE

NOTE: This paper is also known as "Epson Enhanced Matte" in the Epson
PRO line.) When Archival Matte was first introduced in the summer of
2000, many of our customers began using this great paper for greeting
cards and other printed items where the plain back side of the paper was
also utilized. Many users were appalled when Epson began adding a back
side watermark in the form of repeating arrows and the Epson logo. Epson
has heard your cries for help, and has contacted us about making this
paper in a special bulk run for those who wish to have it without the
back side watermark! This product should be available in about 30 days.
If you are interested, please contact us by email at
archival_matte_no_mark@...
<mailto:archival_matte_no_mark@...> and we will respond with
pricing and availability."

I never did find it actually listed on their website ;-(

But, for A3 it's about $ 0.90 a sheet in A3 when you do the math..

You can call them directly to order at:

800-777-2076

Since TSS/Inkjetart went out and explicitly asked for the no watermark
version, I would hope the community will buy enough of this so that
EPSON makes it an option.. Of course make sure you leave a few packs
for me.. ;-)

I guess so at this point. They are the only ones willing to make that
statement about their supply of EEM from what I read at various websites.
At the same time, from what I read (and maybe I missed something) I really
didn't get the feeling that this was some special paper made just for them.
Of course if it isn't a run of paper made uniquely for them, then that would
put today's response from the Epson rep. to me into doubt. I wish someone
could give us a straight and definitive answer. Apparently we will have to
wait a bit longer until other vendors start shipping EEM.

Since Epson felt the need to remove the gray balancer and CD writing
functions from the US 2200, maybe they will feel the need to remove their
ugly watermarks from the US version of EEM? Nah...:)
