Cleaning flatbed scanner

What is the best product and method to use to clean the smudges off the
glass of a flatbed scanner?

Thanks in advance.

Any quality glass cleaner and a lint free cloth should work fine. The
important thing to do is to open up the scanner and clean both sides of the
glass every once in a while.

Windex, etc.

I have to clean mine often enough that I no longer bother to screw it
back together. If you're going to clean the inside glass surface, take
the time to blow it out and to clean the light source, too.

I asked this question of Heidelberg tech support. I was told to avoid
standard window cleaners and any other glass cleaner that leaves a
residue. They said any optical glass cleaner should be fine. I use a
lens cleaner.

I've had good luck just using a clean dry microfiber cloth that you
can purchase in an auto parts store or I've seen them in US
drugstores.
