The printer has big dots, is 7 year old technology, and prints an image
size of 13 inches wide, same as the 1280 which is not only cheaper but
light years ahead in quality.

I have the 1520 as well as an 1160. The 1520 prints larger than
the 1160 (or 1280 for that matter). You can print a 17x22 on this
printer. That's probably the only advantage though. The dots are
bigger than the current 4 picoliter drops as Jerry mentioned
earlier.

Andy, you can't print an actual 17x22 image size on your 1520, surely?
There is one in the office I used to work at, and 13x19 is the limit of
the image size. The printer will accept 17x22 inch paper though.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll cross the 1520 off my list. I'd
like the 1160, but its over my budget. I have a 1270, but may
dedicate this for duotones & color. Any comments on the smaller Epson
860, or other printer suggestions for quadtones?
