Digital BW, The Print

The six wire FireWire cable is for units that are powered thru the 
cable, ie: iPod, etc.
With the iPod you can recharge either to a charger or to the FireWire 
card in the computer using
the same cable.
The extra two wires are the power lines.
I don't think the Epson scanner is powered this way.
If the scanner has it's own power cable it is not.
It is mostly a Apple thing - Apple invented FireWire - but not always.
