Lets see, If you destroy your negs at 80, Then there won't be any "estate
editioned prints" to leave your 30yr old wife! (just kiddding);0) Like
Imogene Cunningham estate prints!(much cheaper than the ones she made) Never
destroy your negs! A while back Cone editions, or a piezo black and white
print shop reissued a box set of 6 Walker Evans prints all in Ink on rag
paper. Editioning photographic prints really has no relation to the original
concept of editioned press prints. I say edition them how you want to, set
the number at what you realistically think you might sell, Its your art your
in charge of it. When I number my prints at 50 I make no promise that they
will be identicle, and I might make a bigger size a different smaller
edition. There are plenty of names that do this. The collector market is
driven by names, then images!-course to get the "name" some pretty special
images had to have been produced. Anybody seen any new names at an APAID
show?
There are prints out there that get the" just push the button for another
copy response" But fine photographers make fine ink prints and you can tell
there is a difference between a pro photographers work and even a semi pro
when you see the work at exhibition. Even if its an inkjet with weak blacks
:) I know we all want the best. Truthfully, only other photographers notice
things like deep blacks or lack of. Ask yourselves How many expensive
photographs have I wanted to buy or bought recently, 600-2000.00 and what
made you want to buy them?
Mark Tucker, I don't think anyone is going to give you that he pushed the
print button and made that beautiful photograph. It obvious your a pro, even
a very talented one o:) your like an the anorexic who only sees fat in the
mirror, except you see weak blacks. I gotta tell you mark, your the only
thing keeeping me from buying a 9600, and maybe thats good. The black 9600
samples I have seem fine, and I know how good dye blacks are! Maybe you
should burn those dye prints, with the coal blacks? NAW! I like having good
ones and bad ones around just to know where I've been or where I want to go.
I do like looking at photography, and reading about, its good for ideas and
stimulation as well as inspiration. Buy I did cancel My subscription to Black
and White Magazine, At little bit regrettfully at this point. Decided the
digital thing is not something I want to make a big deal out of.
I'm in digital because I like the look of ink on rag papers period. Thats
what I do, and thats what I like, and thats what compliments my work best in
my opinion. Fourtunately it sells in ink without question, and at the same
price as silver. My problem is I feel guilty when a gallery sells a print for
950.00. But not for long!
End of stupid ramble>>

That's the funniest thing I've read all day!

By the way Steve, kudos on the article in Art Business News! I just saw
it last night. Well done!

> Wow! somebody actually saw the article ;0) cool! Its the first time I had
actually seen the magazine, and this particular issue (oct) featured
photography issues!
Photography is basically HOT and making galleries, dealers, and publishers
lots of money in the art markets.
Another, issue keeping me from working and spending time with my bad writing
skills came up today!
I spent the day Making various pinhole plates for one of my 4x5 cameras. I
wanted a very soft focus ultra smooth look. Shot a bunch of polaroids, with
different hole sizes and bellows draws and really nailed the look I was
looking for. Ready to hit the road with this contraption, and for some reason
I opened photoshop and applied a big Gaussian blur to an image. Shit! It
nailed the look I was looking for too. Do I shoot pinholes anyway so I can
say there pinholes? just blurring them doesn't seem right. Then again, for a
long time I felt that I was cheating by using xrays instead of light to
expose film.
Past time for therapy I think..

This happened to me a while back - I bought a field camera because I wanted
only a small area in focus, so I was screwing around with movements but
didn't like the quality of bokeh I was getting - so ... loaded a gradient
mask, gaussian blur, a tad of noise and a perfect image. Anyone want to but
a Horseman VHR?
