Inkjet BW Show: Atlanta

Inkjet BW Show: Atlanta

2002-11-22 by Mark Tucker

Stumbled on a show today in Atlanta at the Sandler Hudson
Gallery. BW inkjet prints by a guy named Fernando La Rosa.
Mostly roots, leaves, botanical stuff. Nice images, but they
appeared to be shot with either a digital camera, or they were
badly underscanned. Bad pixelation; very noticeable. Looked like
he was using quad inks; no crossover; good tonalities. They
were priced between $750 and 1100. Prints would have been
nice if he'd left them smaller. If you live near Atlanta, you might
check that out. It's on Peachtree (what isn't?), south of Buckhead.

Also saw a show of large format color at Jane Jackson Gallery; a
guy named David Hilliard from Yale. CPrints mounted on
aluminum (with no frames). I was not smart enough to
understand the show. But in the side room were a bunch of tiny
BW prints that were gorgeous.

Seeing strong work is so good. It gets me excited, then
depressed, then excited again. Then, of course, depressed
again.

Jackson Fine Art has great mojo/spirit.

And here's the heavyweight gallery there. Too dressed up for me,
but they had some fine work:

Mark,

Thanks for the information. I will be in Atlanta over Christmas and
New Year and are looking for good places to see and study inkjet
prints as I'm planning to get an 9600 for B/W printing with Fine Art
Paper. (D-max problem worries me a little do) Is there more good
interresting places to visit?

Regards
