Printing MIS-VM inks on 1160 with Mac OS X

I have been very happy with my print quality using MIS-VM inks with Paul Roark's workflow on my Epson 1160, Mac OS 9.2.2, and Photoshop 7.01, EAM paper. Then I installed Mac OS 10.2.2. When I open Print with Preview, my color settings are Source Space: sRGB, Print Space: same as source. Clicking Print brings up the Epson Driver. My settings there under Print Settings are Media Type: Matte Paper - Heavyweight, Ink: color now the problem starts Mode: choice of Automatic or Advanced Automatic: Quality gives me a 720dpi print with High Speed Printing on, no good for what I want to do Advanced: Print Quality -1440dpi, Half toning - High Quality, I pick this Next window - Color Mangement Color Controls is the only choice that gives me access to the ink controls, but I do not have the choice of Mode: Automatic that I had with OS 9, instead I need to choose either Mode: Photorealistic or Mode:Vivid. When I print with either of these modes, I get strange results, blacks too dark, whites too light. I can always go back to printing with OS 9, but I'd like to make OS X work. I tried GIMP Print, but things are even stranger there. Help Don Lysons
