My First Review of Harald Johnson's New Book

My First Review of Harald Johnson's New Book

2002-12-11 by Editor P.O.V. Image Service

I just got my first copy of Harald (don't call me Howard) Johnson's new
book: "Mastering Digital Printing"

My initial review can be summed up in one word "WOW!"

Finally, someone brings color theory, along with the history and
practice of fine-art digital printing in one very comprehensive
publication.. The sheer depth of information is just boggling, and the
writing is both eminently readable and insightful. Kudos to Harald..

If Gregory George's newest book" "50 Fast Photoshop 7 Techniques" is a
Zabar's or the Stage Deli level delight for information and technique
"noshers," Harald's book is more akin to an in-depth 6 course prix fixe
meal at Chez Panisse (current and former Berkeleyites and/or Clinton
administration followers will know the reference)..

If anyone is looking for last minute Holiday gifts, put this book on
your short list for ANY inkjet printer user!

1. thanks Keith.

2. Jerry: <Amazon says the book won't be delivered until august to december
2003! Isn't the book out now?>

Amazon's messing with my mind again. If you click one of the other delivery
options, it should say "Unknown ship date." (You'll note that Amazon is say
the publishing date is "December 2002")

3. to all... I don't have a clue why the book hasn't shipped yet; it's been
out of my hands since October. (BTW, Keith received a "Review Copy" direct
from the publisher.)

I suggest you contact Amazon (book-dept@...), B&N (800-843-2665 USA,
201-272-3651 INTL), et al. and do some squeaky-wheel screaming (I'm doing the
same). The book is printed, and they should have it. The ISBN # is:
1-929685-65-3.

If you want it for a gift, and if Amazon, et al. don't get it together to
ship the book to be received in time for holiday gifts, here's what I'll do:
I'll design and post a Gift Card for the book. You could print it, put it in
an envelope, and place it under the tree or however you do your gift-giving.
Let me know.

I'm very frustrated about this delay and confusion with the book's delivery.
Like Benjamin says, there's just not a darn thing I can do about it.

And if all else fails, go to the publisher's website store at:
http://www.mlstore.com/mdp.html

It's $29.95 there + shipping. I believe they have a limited supply available
immediately (is this starting to sound like the Epson 2200 situation? ;-)

Harald,

I went and did this a little earlier (as soon as I saw the email from
Phil-THANKS!).

I also searched with bestbookdeals.com (or something like that) yesterday
that searches all the bookstores. What is funny (or not, really) is that
several of the retailers are showing it 'in stock'. But, when you actually
go to purchase, it give you a message that it will take 2-3 weeks before
they'll ship. What a pain.

I feel for ya Harold. I just want the Book!

Thanks for writing it (and I haven't even read it yet ;-)

Blair

Let me add my 2ยข. It's a great book and I envision that it will have
a life of it's own, with periodic revisions. It is the definitive
source of digital printing.
