Well, it used to be different. The Heavyweight Matte was much more cream
colored than EAM, and it was lighter weight than EAM.

Re: [Digital BW] Heavyweight Matt vs EAM/EEM

2002-12-21 by Loris Medici

I use Randall's RGB Partitioned workflow for printing on EAM and HPR
exclusively (inks: Selenium PT + MIS FSN-K). The Randall workflow requires
"Heavyweight Matte" setting for "Paper Type" in the Epson driver. Despite
EHM being lighter from both EAM and HPR, the papers are wavy out of the
printer (HPR being less affected). I just don't get how a heavier paper gets
wavy using a much ligher paper's ink-laying profile...

Any explanation?

Regards,
Loris.

Jerry:
Thanks. After being very critical about the weight, comparing them
side by side, it does seem that the EHM is maybe 5%-10% lighter. I
couldn't tell the difference till I looked specifically for it by
holding the pages by their edge and seeing how much they sagged.
But, the tone appears identical in both incadesent and daylight. I
just cannot tell any difference in the prints.
I guess this is just another one of those great mysteries of digital
printing.

Which of the 2 papers is whiter? The EAM used to be, is it still?

Jerry:
To my eye (untrained as it may be) they appear to be an identical
shade and tone of white. And, prints on them look identical.

Well, that's either good news or bad news. If they are both as white as
the EAM used to be and I hope still is, it's great. If both are the
color of the old heavyweight matte, that's quite ivory, and I'd be very
disappointed, since I just ordered a dozen boxes!
