On all of my recent Epson printers, including my current C80, the ink monitor 
is a seperate application from the print driver itself.  They are listed 
seperately in the Epson download site and installed seperately.  I have not 
been able to access this info today on the Epson site, keeps timing out, to 
see if this is true for the 1280/1290 series of printers.  You might want to 
check this out.
