To go even further:

AT LEAST UNDER WINDOZE:

On a 1270, you can use the 1270 or 2000P driver..

On a 1280/1290, you can use a 1270, 1280, 1290, or 2000P driver..

I've tested all the combinations listed and they work fine:  in some 
cases you will need to disable the error-reporting feature of the Print 
Monitor associated with the "incorrect" driver though.

I'll leave the disheartened 2000P owners who thought they had a 
"different beast," as well as what this all means about print engines, 
to others..

Just started trying that, and the preliminary result is YES...

However, I don't recommend using the 2880 resolution or borderless 
settings..  The firmware will probably not handle it, and I'm not about 
to guess at the results..

I would like to know is is possible to use the 1290 or 1280 drivers 
in an epson 1160 to get borderless prints.

I seriously doubt it...

As I understand it, borderless printing is a combination of firmware 
that can do it and driver software that addresses that firmware..
