Epson 2200 ink shortage

Epson 2200 ink shortage

2003-01-11 by Jon Adams

Hello All -

Now that I've nailed making b&w prints with the
Epson 2200 there's no ink to buy. None of the vendors
that I do business with have light cyan, light magenta
or light black. I've been told by one vendor that
since sales of the 2200 have taken off, Epson hasn't
been able to keep up with the demand [for those inks
in particular]. I am wondering if anyone else has
experienced this shortage in their region of the
galaxy.

Hello Jon,
Since we all are after the perfect B&W print Pls could you inform us
about your workflow in getting pefect B&W prints in using particular
the 2200 in with the full inkset? I only can succeed with BO. With FI
I get lots off metarism.

Metamerism is a physical property of the ink; you
can't fix it with workflow.

Metamerisms occur when the shape of the spectral response
curve of two different inks are different. In a 7-ink system
like the 2200 if you can identify the inks that have the
peakiest response curve you may be able reduce metamerisms
by not using so much of those inks, although this would
take special drivers.

The metamerism problem with the 2200 is noticable but
not horrible. Yesterday I took the black and white sample
on the Enhanced Matte that came with the printer (the sample they
gave me was a skyline of Paris) and took it with me shopping.
That way I could look at it in lots of different lighting conditions
in stores houses and outside from early afternoon to
evening. It stayed pretty neutral in every condition except
bright sunlight with blue sky, in which it looked somewhat
greenish, especially in the light grays.
