I image you might also see the differences in the solvent bases used, and the VM-k does have more co-solvent in it than the midtone inks. On matte paper it isn't a problem. Since glossy printing was never considered feasible with either the black or midtone pigments, the problems of the ink interactions on that type of paper were not a consideration. But, as I said, all this is about to be history. What we do still need is a black ink that is good on glossy and has a high dmax on matte paper. We will still have the same problem the UltraChrome printers have -- the need to change black inks. That's easy on small desktop machines, but on the 3000 & up, it's a real pain.
