Digital BW, The Print

I've been lurking here for some time learning all the time.  I think 
I'm ready to jump in.  My 1280 printer will be arriving this week, 
I've ordered some MIS VM Hextones to start, EAM paper and will use 
Paul Roark's curves.  Just a few questions.

Should I profile the printer using the Epson color cartridges and 
then switch to the VM ink?  Is there a problem switching to the 
pigment ink from the Epson dye ink?  Should I run a cleaning 
cartridge before the switch?

I can't wait to start this knowing full well there'll be frustrations 
along the way.  It's all part of the process.
