Legion Photo Matte - Mottling

Am I the only person who has experienced significant dot gain with the new Legion Photo Matte? I'm using it on an Epson 1200, with the media settings that use the least amount of ink -- inkjet backlit film and "No Adjustment" or "Automatic" settings. Very fine detail is lost because the bright highlights get smeared with a tad of adjoining gray. This is only for very very fine highlights so it might not be noticeable for different types of images (I shoot 6 cm x 9cm originals with a lot of fine detail). Also, in general, I've found that the Epson 1200 [I have one set up with Gen 4 pigmented inks and another with the Roark/MIS VM inkset] can only be used on certain papers because of this same problem. Other popular papers that don't work great with the Epson 1200 are Museo and Epson Archival Watercolor; again because of two much ink laydown and dot gain/spreading. Papers that show no dot gain include 1) Torchon/Rivier, 2) Wells River/W. Turner, 3) Eclipse Bright Cube Satin, and 4) EAM. EAM however wrinkles slightly because of excessive ink laydown. Is this a problem unique to the 1200 -- does it laydown more ink that other 6 color printers, like the 1270 or 1280?
