MIS FS In Cartridges?

MIS FS In Cartridges?

2003-02-05 by Tom Husband <thusband@sbcglobal.net>

I'm trying out the various MIS cartridge ink sets on my 1280 before I
settle on one and probably install a CIS. It just dawned on me that
as far as I can tell the only B&W ink in a cartridge is VM. I'd like
to try the FS ink too but it only comes in bulk plus the link to John
Woolf's workflow through MIS isn't working. Is the FS ink available
in cartridges from other sources or am I missing something at MIS?
Are there other inks available in cartridges I should consider?

Thanks for your help,

Tom Husband

According to this page:

they sell carts for the 1280 in the VM, VM Sepia, FS and FS-N.

Thanks Richard. I think, though, that the FS cartridges are only for
the Cone driver. That link you referenced says "under
construction". I did find this one
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/quadcart.html#1270
but it only had VM and FS for the Cone driver. I'm looking for an FS
cartridge that can be used with curves.

Call MIS on the phone. They may now have the FSN-E (Epson driver) inks
in carts by now and just haven't yet updated their website. I have
found them to be very helpful.

Don't shy away from using the VM inks in carts and Roark curves. I
tried them on my 1280 and they worked right out of the box. And, I'm
new at this. I wanted to try the FSN-E inks as well, so I bought one
of the MIS CFS (CIS?) systems and it was a good investment. Like you,
I couldn't download the Woolf curves because of a bad link on the MIS
website (Bob the gracious owner also seems to be the overworked
webmaster) but I was sent them direct by someone on this list. I'll be
happy to send the Woolf curves and workflow on to you if you end up
with the FSN-E inks. They also worked very well.

I always close by suggesting trying Black Only printing. I'm sold on
it. Read Clayton Jones' excellent description and workflow at
http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm

Good information Bob. Thank you.

I'll give MIS a call. I liked the VM inks and Paul Roark's curves
right away but before I buy a CIS I'd like to settle on an ink.
I've read good things about the FS ink and the Woolf curves and FS
ink with the Cone driver too.

I agree that Clayton Jones' Black Only work flow is very nice. I'm
using it with my 870/CIS and MIS dye ink.

I might take you up on your kind offer to send the Woolf curves.

Thanks again,

Tom
