Morning Peeple.

Paul asked me to post my thoughts on the new MIS 4.3 inkset. He sent me
three prints with a landscape and
test strip/gradient using 3 new curves.

The prints are perfect, with solid blacks. The MIS black ink is so close
to the Media Street Enhanced black, it really won't be a problem
anymore.

The warm curve produces a rich brown toned print, and has a very smooth
curve. The 21 step wedge is extremely
even. You can really see all five of the 5 darkest patches, from 95% to
100% black.

The same holds true of the Neutral and cool curves. The grays are very
neutral all across the print. Of the three
I prefer the neutral curve first, but the cool curve would be used for
snow scenes. The inkset looks like a winner. He printed the images on
Epson EAM paper. on an 1160 printer.

When will we see these inks?

Steve,

Good question but not something I have the answer to. Since PixelPixasso is
a color RIP as well as doing quads I suspect it may support other printers.
I believe this piece of software has been around in at least development
phase before the 7-ink printers came along.

Their URL is www.bwguys.com but there is no info there on these new products
yet. You can e-mail them at info@... and see if you can get some
answers.

As far as the $1,495 version goes this is out of my range but so is a 7600
to go with it. The $495 is pretty steep as well. This pricing just reflects
their current BW Pro and BW Pro Lite prices which are the same as the Piezo
RIP. Also in line with Colorbyte's desktop and wide format RIP's. However, I
wouldn't have a problem spending $150 for the plug-in version to use these
inks in the 2200. That really seems like a decent price to me.

Haven't had the opportunity to see any prints using the UC VM inks. I think
the big news with R9 is the software. It appears to bring ease and accuracy
to variable toning that would be difficult to match with RGB separation
curves. I don't see that the Septone inks break any quality barriers but
they look to be on the same level as the PiezoTone inks.

Until I actually get a chance to do some printing myself with any of these
ink sets and see comparative fade testing I have to reserve final judgment.

I believe with Colorbyte's IP5 rip, the price is on a per printer basis!
2495.00 for the 9600 and another 1495.00 for the 7600 as well as 495.00 for
the 2200. So at Least with R9/ piezo pro type products the license is per
Computer and one could support at least two printers for a single software
price..
So thePixelPixasso software is priced just as good as its ever been for black
and white RIP solutions.
Jon Cone is promising "inexpensive" news next week.
