Austin, a post from Claude Jodin: The Foveon X3 is a little better than the D60 and only slightly better than the S2 in the sharpness department. It will also interpolate to a 14 Megapixel file from it's RAW processing software, so it gives the new Canon 11 MP a run for it's money. More importantly, what it doesn't have is moire patterns in my backlit veil and "killer pillow'" test which makes all single shot digital cameras tested here in the last 5 years (you name it) puke. Only the Sigma/X3, the original Foveon 3-chip prism camera, and the Kodak Pro Back with the Anti Aliasing filter have escapted the killer pillow intact. Where the Foveon creations shine is when you make 40x50 canvases on a Big Epson. Everyone else falls apart at 30x40. Claude Jodoin

Jerry, Who may I ask is Claude Jodoin ? Before you decide to spend hard earned bucks on the Foveon X3, here's something you might want to know about the Sigma D9, the only camera available now with the Foveon chip, AFAIK. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sigmasd9/page24.asp Cheers, Andre --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Jerry Olson <jerryolson@r...> wrote: > > Austin, a post from Claude Jodin: > > > The Foveon X3 is a little better than the D60 and only slightly better > than > the S2 in the sharpness department. > Who may I ask is Claude Jodoin ? Here is what a web search claims: "Claude Jodoin Claude Jodoin, Cr. Photog.,CPP, has been a photographer for 23 years. He is Technical Editor for PPA's Professional Photographer Magazine, 7 years running, and advisor for new Photography Certification Exams. He has an extensive technical background in Industrial/Corporate Photography using all film formats from 35mm to 8x10 to Digital He has written numerous articles for PPA affiliates on Digital Imaging, Light theory, Metering, Special Effects, indoor/outdoor Portraiture, and applied sensitometry in Color and Black and White (Zone system). He has taught various workshops in the US and Canada and enjoys doing Industrial, Commercial, Portrait, and Wedding work for select clients. He has been involved in Digital Imaging since 1986, pioneering the use of high-resolution laser photoplotters in electronics imaging. In 1996, he bought his first digital camera and began an event photography business, replacing all Polaroid venues. He used film for the last time in Oct, 1999. All of his Wedding, Portrait, and corporate images have been done digitally since. He opened a new all-digital Studio in 2000. He was recently featured in Dean Collins US Photoshop tour on Digital Color management and Workflow." This is not mean to be insulting at all, just a statement of fact. I have no comment on whether that means he knows what he's talking about with respect to the subject at hand or not, that will come out with further discussion, not from what I see on his bio. Austin
