Bruce,

You can but I don't recommend it. You will waste more in paper cost trying
to adjust prints as the inks slowly blend in than the value of the little
remaining ink you have left in the bottles.

Probably but don't for the same reason.

Recommended so that you get a clean cut over and save on paper cost. These
should be replaced every year or so anyways as there is some believe that
the sponge material may break down with time and some pigment settles out
creating sludge in the cartridges and lines. Clean the lines out if you
change cartridges.

Gen 4 is probably it.
