Though I haven't tried it, my guess is that it will work. However, I would
also guess that your raw file will not have been ICE'd or had negative
inversion and correction applied either.

I've been using vuescan and find that it actually scans faster than Nikon
Scan on large 6x9 film on my mac. For smaller files nikon scan is faster as
it can use all three sensors. Dust removal is better in NikonScan but it
clips the highlights of negative scans unfortunately.

Bruce;

I hope you're right; I'll be sending out a file to be tested, I'll
get back to all with the results.

OT: Photoshop 7 Color Settings

2003-03-25 by Stephen Jennings

Sorry for the Off Topic question. I just upgraded to PS7 and I'm having
trouble with my Color Settings, which I have set as follows:

RGB: Adobe RGB (1998)
CMYK: Colorsync CMYK - Generic CMYK Profile
Gray: Custom Dot Gain Curve (for Piezography)
Spot: Dot Gain 20%

Images look great on the monitor, but are washed out and greenish on paper.
I'm on a B&W Mac G3 OS9.2 and I'm using a custom printer profile that has
worked great for years. I'm stumped. Is the set-up different from PS5?

Stephen,

What printer are you using? And what inks?

I've found that except for the 2200, most of the desktop epsons produce greenish (or purplish) BW prints when using the color ink. Switching to six-color grey inks will help a lot.

Your color settings look fine - make sure you have "no color adjustment" set in your driver when you print.

Steve,
I´m not sure if PS 7 automatically imports your old custom
greyscale dot curve from PS 6. I even don´t know if you can
reload it manually. Maybe you must redesign your custom curve
using the 21 step wedge after having calibrated your monitor.
Not sure, just an idea.

Hello Stephen,

If you are using Piezography, wasn't there instructions as how to
set up Photoshop 7? If it is similar to Quadtone printing, I think
you should set up your working space and printing space as RGB, so
the driver will draw from all the separate shades of black according
to the image. Pretend it is a color image that is simply being
translated by the software for Piezography into a grayscale image. I
don't have Piezography, so there may be some special cases that need
to be considered. By the way, how do you like the results from
Piezography. I just bought an Epson 1280 and print in Black Only,
and the Piezography interests me; but won't look into it till I run
out of inks.

Your friend in Photography
