Unabashed OPM/IJC Rave

Unabashed OPM/IJC Rave

2003-04-22 by nick90290

After two weeks of endless printing and experimentation, I have to
say that the OPM/IJC software, especially on the 2200, has proven to
be something of a Godsend.

The difference in printing sepia prints on the 2200 through the Epson
Print Driver, and through OPM, is huge. With the Epson Print Driver,
I still get those subtle but horrible red/green transitions in
mid-tones - no true sepia at all. With the OPM in action, I get
perfect sepia prints, where I can control the exact color of the
sepia. The results are fantastic. Just like the best darkroom print
at
last, but with more control.

On the 1280, the results are also beautiful, occasionally even subtly
better due to the smaller dots in the highlights. But the downsides
are you're confined to the sepia color that is the MIS Sepia - really
nice, but for me, I personally want something a little warmer/more
chocolatey.
Also, of course, the 2200 is 3-4 times faster.

Also, Joe at Bowhaus has now fixed the black banding problem, so
everything seems set to churn out endless great prints..............

I agree. I'm finally able to get great neutral B&W prints without
metamerism.

Which inks are you using for your sepia profiles and if you are using
the yellow ink is there any problem with metamerism?

I never had this problem, but I'm curious to know what the fix was.

I use the light magenta and yellow. Only 3/26 on the light magenta,
1/26 on the yellow. The magenta is switched off. 5 on light magenta,
2
on yellow looks great for a stronger sepia too.

I only had it on the 1280, not the 2200. I wouldn't explain the
solution coherently - so it's better I don't attempt to, I
think........

Could you please tell me what OPM/IJC stands for and who sells it?

Thanks.

Jerry, Betty... here is my message from the other day answering this very
question:

------------------------------------------

this is Mac OS (8 and 9) software that allows you to print bw inkjet prints
from
a variety of Epsons using any ink and paper combination of your choice. Its
main strength is that you can make your own profiles and not rely on "canned"
ones - something that has long been a reality for high-end color printing.

We had a discussion here about all this - you may search back to my
message 28545 - a few weeks ago when OPM (OpenPrintMaker) was
released as a free download. IJC (InkJetControl) sells for around $200 and is
the part that allows profile making (useable only with OPM).

The download site is:
http://www.bowhaus.com/inkjetcontrol/

and further info can be obtained from the company at:
software@...

I have been involved as a beta tester and have certainly seen the benefits of
this software solution across many of my printers, so I am a very enthusiastic
supporter of its development. It is still in release v.1, with many
improvements
to come, but it works well enough for now to have taken over from any
previous software that I tried for bw (the piezo plug-in and ImagePrint).
