All Lights Flashing?

Well, I've been printing a lot. Projects not quite done. All printer lights are flashing on my 1270. Out of warranty. On/Off switch not responsive. Pull the plug and it will return to all flashing when back in. Epson suggested a maintenance call. Local service is 100 miles away. Call to service says its one of two things... Pads are full, needing replacement OR Terminal error needing a new printer? Anyone survived this?? Resolutions on cleaning pads?? Figure even if I were able to clean the pads, that I'd need to be able to re-set the printer and don't know if I can? Thanks for comments. Cleavis
