Try ImagePrint and the 7600. It will use just the cyan and magenta and light
and black inks for b/w printing. You will actually save money over buying
all those other inks.

Image Print in color is hands down the best solution - especially when
combined with ProfileMaker Pro if you have the $$$.

You will need to devote some serious time and head scratching to master this
incredibly powerful and not very easy to use application. Don't be
intimidated and don't be discouraged. It works well. You will need to devote
a few full days to getting a satisfactory level of expertise to know whether
you like it or not. If you don't like it you can return it within 30 days.
The issue in b/w printing will be screening in the 1/4 tones. Some find it
acceptable, some don't.

If you don't like the screening in b/w you can always print b/w in full
color mode and see if the slight increase in metamerism is a problem, the
yellow ink is the problem, with yellow you get fine screening and a little
metamerism, without yellow you loose the metamerism but suffer a slightly
coarser dither in the 1/4 tones as a consequnce.

If you find that you just can't get what you need with IP in b/w from the
7600 you can use IP to drive the 7000 with MIS inks. For me that was the
ultimate solution. Of course it also involves the use of Color Savvy and a
spectrophotometer to keep it linearized through the constant MIS ink
changes.

The MIS inks are also not as colorfast as the ultrachrome inks...

Check out the ImagePrint users group for help.

Believe me - I have been down this road. I choked on the purchase price but
now realize it was worth every penny.

11**, 1270, 1280, 2000, 2200, 5000, 5500, 7000, 7600

ProfileMakerPro, Color Savvy, Gray Balancer, etc and the Spectroscan.

Lyson, Cone, MIS FSN VM etc. I've bought and paid for them all.

I would have save myself a world of trouble and $$$$ if ImagePrint had been
available back when..

Good luck and best wishes,

Nick Wheeler
