Digital BW, The Print

Using the Conetech Piezography PS plugin,I've been trying to match my 
screen image to the print via printing the 21-step wedge and visually 
adjusting the custom dot gain curve under the greyscale settings of 
PS against a print out on a particular paper of the wedge in order to 
try and match the two. I seem to get close but as time passes I keep 
looking for ways to extract a better print and keep returning to "how 
do I get a more perfect match between my screen and printer output".

I'm curious as to how others recommend to achieve this nirvana.
