Lyson SG problems

Lyson SG problems

2003-05-13 by Keith Cooper

Hi

I've noted the unfortunate problems some people have expressed with Lyson SG
Inks. My own experiences have been somewhat different...

I can only say that I've used them for some time on an 1160 with Lyson
Semi-gloss paper with no problems, and have numerous happy clients with
prints. I do not have sufficient experience to comment on matt papers (such
as Lyson Fine Art) since it's not the sort of stuff I usually print on :-))

I really like the SG inks and have found the people at Lyson in the UK most
helpful. I have no commercial links with Lyson other than as a satisfied
customer.

bye for now

BTW Just because I like the inks doesn't mean I don't keep a close eye on
their performance and permanence! All this B/W inkjet stuff is still pretty
new :-))

Hi Keith

Just a word of caution - the shift to green that I and at least the
friends I know who used them have always been most noticeable on
warm-tinted prints. I don't know if you're doing those.

As a test, I would try making a print of something with exactly the
same hue setting as a print you made a few months ago, and hold them
side by side in the daylight (incandsecent is incredibly deceptive,
covering all manner of color problems). And see if there's a
difference.

Hi

Some useful suggestions to check. I have very few toned prints out in the
wild, since I like the SG for the very neutral look I can get with a good
paper profile. I will be seeing someone this weekend who has some copies of
old toned photographs that I made with SG for them. I'll give them a careful
look!

A healthy attack of paranoia can be quite good for you sometimes!
