Disappointing 1160 MIS VM Results

2003-05-27 by baduerr

I'm new using BW and can't seem the get a BW print that I like. I'm
using a 1160 with MIS's original VM inkset and Rourk's curves. My
prints look flat without that punch that BW prints can have. It is
very hard for me to describe in words what I don't like about the
prints, they just look boring. The image on my monitor looks great.

I have compared a print containing a test strip and constructed a
curve to make the image on the monitor to look like the print. I
then construct another curve to make the appropriate corrections.
When I print, I turn off the first curve and only use the correction
curve and the Rourk curve. The resulting print is much better but
still lacks the punch. Increasing contrast only makes it works. I
am using EAM paper.

I would get better results using MIS's new black ink or
piezography? I would appreciate any help that is offered.

I'm

I've figured out what I was doing wrong. I was printing under Mac
OS 10.2.6 using the gimp-print driver. When I switched to OS 9.2
using the epson driver the prints looked much improved. I'm a happy
camer now. I still may try MIS's new black.
