UPDATE on JERRY OLSON memorial print exchange *****
2003-05-29 by Tom OConnell
Hi everyone- I've received a number of emails from people who would like to participate but don't have (or particularly want to shoot) a cat photo. Point well taken...the idea here is to honor our memory of Jerry with a great print, preferably with a perfect black patch somewhere in the frame <g>. This is even more meaningful in light of Keith Krebs idea to print an extra set to sell at a fund raiser to cover some of the costs of preserving as much of Jerry's work as possible. Sooooooooooooo...the exchange dates still hold, but CAT PHOTO is only SUGGESTED. Again...sign up will be open to everyone through June 2 and then we will need to make our prints in the next week to 10 days and ship them off so we can deliver the set to his mother and the gallery in a reasonably timely fashion. Keep the sign-ups and ideas coming...please contact me offline with the email link above. cheers, Tom O'Connell ------------------------------- SPECIAL "JERRY OLSON MEMORIAL" PRINT EXCHANGE We have to thank Cleavis for this idea a memorial exchange for Jerry with a CAT theme SUGGESTED ONLY He loved his cats, he loved printing and exchanges, so a good print with a deep black somewhere in it will be quite proper. Sign-up will be open until June 2. I will post a notice here and email everyone who signs up how many prints to make (1 for each participant plus one for his mother and one for a gallery to sell for a fundraiser to preserve Jerry's work You may want to put a note on the print for his mother). Prints will be due to me (west coast USA) by June 16. Typical print exchange guidelines apply: * Sign up by EMAILING me using the clicking the link in the "from" field above * Prints are digital BW on either letter (8x5 x 11) or A4 (European equivalent) paper. * Prints must arrive on West Coast U.S. by June 16. * Prints can be shipped to me any way you like, but must include a prepaid return shipping box for either UPS or FEDEX ONLY (new postal regulations require in person post office shipping for anything over one pound and downtown SF postal lines are just too onerous). To save money, the return can be via UPS or FedEx ground (but both services require that ground shipments strictly be in "you own packaging" not the 2-day air boxes). Include your phone number for either UPS or FedEx. * Again Prints can be BOTH Letter and A4. This is a shipping challenge. It is imperative that all prints be shipped in a container that will accommodate BOTH SIZES of paper since the return will include both sizes. The MEDIUM Fedex box fits the SMALL Fedex Box inside for very easy return and the SMALL BOX neatly holds both sizes of print. DO NOT SEAL THE SMALL BOX... Maybe add a little tissue or newspaper for protection. PLEASE FIX THE RETURN LABEL ON THE SMALL BOX SO I DON'T MESS UP WHO THE PRINTS GO TO. This would be the method STRONGLY PREFERRED for quick easy turnaround. Sending prints in the manufacturer's paper box WILL NOT WORK... A4 will not fit in letter, nor will letter fit in A4. Again, please attach your shipping label correctly to the box...this is occasionally critical as it gets confusing sorting. (side note: tape is the biggest threat to a print...most new users tape waaaaay too much). * Prints should all be enclosed in individual glassine/plastic holders with a description sheet facing the back (for sorting). PLEASE MARK THEM "JERRY OLSON EXCHANGE" (I usually have 3 exchanges being shipped at once and I'm easily confused <g>). The print protectors are available from many sources, small quantities are for sale at inkjetart.com... larger quantities all over the internet. The description should include at least: Print title, your name, shooting data, printing data. At a minimum this should include printer, inkset, software (including print driver/software). Any comments or stories on workflow would be very interesting and welcome. * Don't forget to sign the print. Jerry was a stickler on this and howled at anyone who didn't he also liked it on the FRONT something that took some argument to get me to go along, but I am now converted on this point.
