Scanning Software for Colornegativesto produce B&W printgs

Please accept my apology if this has been covered before.

I am looking for software that will do a great job with a agfa
duoscan and colornegative material. I want to get the best from the
negs so that I can produce digital B&W prints.

Is silverfast a good option. The agfa software seems to not be the
best.

Thanks Bob S

Hi

I use Vuescan for just about all my scanning and find that with a bit of
tweaking I can get good scans of colour negs with my FS4000. I make a point
of scanning in colour and then doing the conversion to Black and White in
Photoshop.

I was recently looking at this again (for some images from a digital camera)
and if anyone is interested I've put up a comparison page with a colour
original and 12 different results at:
<http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/bwfromcol.html>

The differences are quite subtle between some techniques. I'd welcome any
comments or additional methods that anyone might suggest.

And no, before anyone starts, I did not intend the alleged Tri-X
'simulation' to re-ignite that recent lengthy 'debate' we had on the list!
:-)) :-)) :-))

bye for now

This is a terrific resource, thanks for taking the time to do this
page. Having each enlargement open in a new window and being able to
switch among them quickly via the task bar buttons makes it easy to
compare different pairs. Great job. I'm going to put a link to this
page on my web site.

Clayton
