time to replace original piezo/sundance inks
2003-06-22 by Bruce
Dear Fellow B&W Printers, I've been printing on an 1160 w/CIS and the original piezo/sundance inks. The bottles are now almost empty and the greenies are rearing their ugly head once again. I'd like to replace it with inks that can print on glossy paper. Dull matte images don't work for me well. I currently have the piezo driver but will consider all alternatives. 1. I'm kind of interested in the variable mix approach. All the examples I've seen in the print exchanges look quite good--but I haven't seen any prints of portraiture, only landscapes. Does the Roark workflow provide smooth enough performance to reproduce a face? When there is any abnormality on a face I think we perceive it more than on any other subject. 2. Can I use the FS inks with the Ultratone photo black and still use the cone driver? And print on glossy paper? Or do I need all Ultratone inks in each color position? 3. Does IJC work with the variable tone approach? Would this be my best choice? Would I need a densitomiter? 4. And lastly, would the quadtone RIP for Mac osX be a good choice as well? Thanks everyone for all the great info on this list. You are all the greatest resource in this field. -Bruce Visit my website at: http://home.earthlink.net/~smthopr
