Whoa Nelly!!!!!!

Whoa Nelly!!!!!!

2003-06-25 by Tim Timmermans

I'm going for it. I'm going to get a 10D. Found one for $1299
(Cameras Source). Now I need all the accessories.

Compact Flash Memory. I'm looking at the Sandisk 1GB. Found one at
$189 (Price it 4 less). My understanding though is that it is too
slow and that the smaller 512 Ultra's are much faster. Anyone have
any experience with these. Is it better to have two 512 Ultras? Know
a good source for these? Two 512 ultras will be much more expensive
than the 1gb.

I'll need an extra battery and a damn 550EX flash ($299 Cameras
Source). Ouch. I have a 540EZ for my 1N but it won't work with the
digi.

The other things are cheap I think. USB transfer cable for downloads.
Eyecup extender to keep the screen clean.

Anyone think of anymore "must haves" and where to get them.

Thanks, Tim

Nice price, $200 less than B&H in New York.
I imagine you have shopped there before and where satisfied ?
Or have you tried a Google search with the name of the store + the
word "Review".
Let us know how your purchase went.
Cheers
Andre

Hi, Tim -

I made the mistake of buying the standard Sandisk 1 GB card. It is so
slow as to be virtually useless in my Nikon D100 when in the RAW
mode. I have two 512 Vikings that are very fast.

I'm going to wait for the newly announced Oly E-1 as I have no
"legacy" Canon lenses to use, but the Canon 10D is a fine
choice. I'm sure you can get much useful info on this list,
however I suggest you also might look in at a dpreview.com
forum devoted to the topic "Canon SLR Talk" (digital, of course).
You have to register to post there, but it will be an excellent
source of info on dealer reliablity and accessories, etc.
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1019

I don't know specifically about the Sandisk 1 gb card you
mentioned, but beware that Sandisk has frequently been among
the very slowest CF cards of the bunch in head-to-head testing of
speed.

Also beware camera dealers offering hard-to-believe lowball
prices on cameras in short supply (as I think the 10D still is).
The dpreview forum will probably be able to give you feedback on
that.

Phil
