Weird Epson 1160 CIS problem

Weird Epson 1160 CIS problem

2003-08-07 by foodfeak

Have come across a problem that I don't understand and does not
make
any sense.
I have a CIS with MIS FSN inks with the Piezography BW software. I
did not use the printer for about 3 weeks, when I tried to print the
black nozzle was not firing. I did couple of cleaning cycles but
then all the lights on the printer flashed. My printer is still
under guarantee so I phoned Epson. They got me to reset the print to
no avail. Under the guarantee they sent some one to fix it. I took
the CIS off put the original cartages in then every thing worked OK
(had a problem with paper feed so still got Epson to have a look).

Epson exchanged my printer with a new one. Have to say Epson back up
is second to none this is not the first time I have dealt with them.

New printer worked OK put the CIS back on again the black nozzle is
not working. I have took the CIS off put original cartages in and
the blacks OK.

Every time I have taken CIS off I have put plugs in and nipped the
tubes closed so no air has got into the system. There is no air in
tubes, cartridges are full if I take plug out of cart the spike is
coved in black ink so as far as I am aware the CIS is in perfect
working order.

At this moment in time CIS is off the printer and original carts in
and all is working well. Could any body suggest my next move? Is it
worth putting the CIS back on doing some purges and cleaning cycle
and leaving for an 8 hour stretch.
Should I put a cleaning cart through before putting the CIS back on?

Has any one ever had this sort of problem as I have said it makes no
sense as all seems OK?

Kirk,
The only thing(s) I can think of is the chip (assuming the 1160 is
chipped, I am not familiar with that printer) on the Black cartridge
is not working. Check to see if it's simply dirty. If it seems OK,
you might want to consider taking the chip off you Black OEM cart,
and putting it onto the CIS Black cart. MIS has a help-me on their
web site for changing chips.
If that doesn't work (or there IS no chip), try the MIS CFS
troubleshooting section, and probably try the technique for removing
residual foam using the bottom fill adapter, and drawing LOTS (I
think they suggest 10 20cc syringes full, which is alot of ink) of
ink through the cartridge, inspecting what goes into the syringe
for "foam". If you do have foam, I think they suggest you discard
that ink, as you draw ink from your resevoir bottle, until there is
no foam coming out of the bottom of the cartridge into the syringe.
If you try this technique, make sure that there is always sufficient
ink in your resevoir bottle so the tube is in liquid,,,if you run
out of ink in the resevoir bottle, you'll start sucking air, which
is bad.
Hope one of these work & solves your trouble.
Best of luck,
Kevin

Two possibilities come to mind.

1. If you are using the old black ink, you may have sludge in the
cartridge, and it cannot be cleared. To check for sludge, empty the
black-ink bottle into a temporary vessel and examine the original. If
there is any sludge at the bottom, your black cart must be replaced and
eboni black substituted for the old black. I had this problem with the
original black.

2. You're already using eboni black? The cart may not be "in perfect
working order." Check for foam and how to get rid of it at the MIS
site. I had this problem as well.

Sludge city like pouring out treacle here goes some more money. Also
the tube that was in the black ink went really strange, went dull in
color. If you rubbed your finger down the side it was like ruubbing
off glue. Well odd?

Here's reaching for my credit card.

Thanks for your help

Kirk

You can easily do the same thing yourself, but still a very useful
product:
