Yes & No... Sometimes they are heavily used - and
sometimes you get one right out of the box that
grandma used to make one print of her grand-kiddies.

Now that that is said, I purchased an 1160 from 'bay
for $75 with shipping (so you can get them cheap
enough). This was with the intent of sending it to
ardito's, who can completely refurbish that machine
for $249 with a 90 day warranty.
So, you can get a "new" 1160 for a minimum of $324 if
you want the hassle of finding and refurbishing it. I
had planned to do this - but as a 1280 is currently
$399 from Epson I sold the 1160 and bought a 1280
silver (1 year warranty). I find the 1280 to be a
better machine, but a bit slower due to it's increased
resolution.
