I suggest you take the print as you would want to see them displayed (e.g. in a museum mat of your color/hue choice...just don't pick olive green..wink) and only take your best ten....tell them there are more available for a one man show.

Good luck.

  Hi all,
I've just had a phonecall from an art gallery who wants to see my stuff. Now
I've never done the portfolio round to an art gallery as opposed to a
photography gallery. Do the usual rules apply - i.e. no more than 10
  prints, everything nicely mounted etc??

Thanks Steadman. I've just sent out a huge mailshot/package, and I'm
suprised when it gets a response!

Sounds like a good start to me. No reason to be nervous. They invited you,
you did not make a cold call on them. They must be impressed with your work
or you would never have heard from them.

Well, I'm a bit suprised. I've sent a pack around about 75 Galleries
inviting them to my new exhibit, with the usual bio and artist statement.
But I also printed up a whole load of I suppose largish thumbnails on
Somerset velvet rad white. Each one about half A4 width by A4 length. This
stuff is about 300 gram cut down from art sheets to A3+. So the only way
they've seen my work is from that. The reason why I'm a bit nervous is that
this gallery is owned by Antoni Tapies who is one of the most famous
painters in Spain. The background is therefore 'art' rather than
'photography'. Luckily I've ordered some mounts for tomorrow by coincidence
so I should be ok. I wanted to put them off for a week, but they said
tomorrow or Monday, so...

Art Gallery, Photo Gallery? All the same animal, only a photo gallery specializes in a particular kind of
art...So all the same rules should apply, and I agree with Steadman's comments.

well done, Julian

FWIW I present my prints mounted to 16x20 (regardless of original size) in
window mats made of 2-ply museum board (4 ply is too thick for carrying).
These go in a light impressions clamshell case.

Thanks John. I'm feeling a bit like a fish out of water. I've been working
for this for 12 months now with the street stuff, and now I'm going to use
the 'flex project - but as you said 'no one buys sp'.
