Weighing in on septones for the 2200

2003-09-18 by mm_rabin

I'm sure there's a post outlining someone's experience w/ actually
using the inks and software; despite what I think is thorough
looking, I can't find it. would somebody mind pointing me in the
right direction? I've read clayton jone's print exchange analysis,
but he indicates that the system has been improved and he's
expecting a new sample print. not sure how current this is.

on a separate issue, the discussions here are very helpful but often
over my head. instead of me asking, piecemeal, a slew of
perennially newbie questions, are there reference materials---
website or book---the pros would recommend?

thanks.

Matt,

Actually there hasn't been a user post about the Septones except to report
that the first batch of cartridges they shipped were defective. I have some
great samples the manufacturer sent me and Clayton has some of the same
samples. I have showed mine around to a number of people. They look great
and from what I see deliver what they promise. However, we have not had any
end user reports to date and we have not had any comparative fade test
results with these particular inks either. This is very new to the market
and it will be awhile before we get enough info to see how they do in real
use. I'll be surprised if they don't work well but that doesn't mean there
might not be some bumps in the road getting the product launched.

Not on digital B&W. Everything has been changing so fast there is not
anything in print that is up to date or even out of date for that matter.
There have been articles in magazines like View Camera and Photo Technique
discussing various aspects. There are bits and pieces on various websites as
well. Definitely check out the MIS, Piezo and bwguys sites. Don't forget the
Files section of the group's homepage too. There is a lot of info in there.

Don't hesitate to ask questions here though. It was over all our heads in
the beginning and sometimes still is at times.<G>
