Save your money and continue to use your digital camera. In a year or so the digital cameras you could buy for $2500 will provide excellent results for most picture taking needs and will come close or go beyond the cheap SLRs you mentioned. Buy new if inexpensive and used if expensive.

Buy a Nikon D1 early model and live with their problems...or buy a used Canon D30.

The Oly 3040 has lots of capabilities that most people won't tap. Learn it and push the boundaries with it. Spend more time on Photoshop. Save your money for something that takes you beyond what you have now.

That is what I would do.

Hello everyone - I would like some expertise advice here!!! all are free to reply!! I know this is a DIGITAL list but i know some of you started with or have used 35mm/SLR cameras in the past and might be familiar with these models so you can give me advice. I have an Olympus Camedia 3040Z and I would like to branch out into the world of SLR also. (or - if these are not good cameras below - what digital SLR or digital upper rank camera would you suggest for under $2500?) Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

I have access to the following (used) 35mm/slr cameras and i want to know which is the best or better brand and is the price they are asking a good one.

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

  Cannon AE1 50mm lens $89.00 - $189.00
  minolta X370 200 zoom $129.95
  Nikon N70 autofocus $650.00
  Pentax ZX50 autofocus 35mm lens $189.00
  Cannon EOS Rebel G $150.00 - $180.00
  Minolta SRT 100 $99.00
  Nikon N50 35mm $299.00
  Konica 35mm w/50mm autorefelx T $139.99
Nikon N220 (he might have said N22020 - he had an accent!) $349.95
  Infinity Superzoom 330 $169.95 - $249.95
  Minolta Maxim 7000 $160 - $170
  pentax SS1 $250.00
  RCA CDS-1005 $89.00

Okay - i am in the market for the best one out of the above (if none of them are good then please let me know!!)
for portrait work, possible IR and Black and White and just general use.

  Thank you!!!

  Michele

this is the one I would go for. Gives you access to the good value line of
FD lenses. A1s are nicer than AE1s and T90s are nicer than both of them. I
got all 3!

Robert - is the quality (clarity, resolution, etc.) of the D1 comprable or better than a 35mm Slr? can it use the same or similar lens like the soft focus or 28-85mm lens? How does it compare with Kodak Tmax 400 film? Does it do true Infrared?

Sorry for the questions but I was reading about the D1 today and didn't find out all i wanted to know! Where can you get it for $3000? The mag I was looking at said around $5500 but that was a month or two ago.

also - what printer do you use with it? Thank you!! Michele
