QTR and latest toys

I'm way overdue posting about my QTR experiences. I was hoping to really get into this because I think it's pretty great. Unfortunately now it's months later and I suspect there's even been updates since I left off. My opinion of working a bit with it is that the results with a 3000 were very good, very comparable to other partioned quad methods. there was a very slick linearization process with the EyeOne that made most of the process automatic. It could be done visually as well without problems. The end result was a bit less constraty in the mids, with a hair more open shadows than printing with the Piezo plugin. Dots were about as unobtrusive as the plugin. The only things that took a little time were because a lot of the info you need is spread out amongst a few different docs, and the math for selecting your partitioning took a while to sink in. What would have helped would have been a very straightforward 1, 2, 3 step by step easy start guide. You can learn the whys later, just get printing. I recall having some problems at first because of having to go in and make sure CALIBRATION=NO or YES, depending, particulary if you are starting from a provided Quad Ink Descriptor File. All the controls are present to do many different things with many different kinds of ink sets. I only tried a straight quad set. Roy's work is exactly at the forefront of what seems to be going on in other software coming out these days for quads. The reason working with it fell by the wayside is that a partner and I have embarked on a new business and it's consumed all of my time. Experimenting and interacting on lists has taken a big back seat. After years of playing, recent developements secured my deciding to offer a fine art quad tone printing service. We are finally set up with a 9600, StudioPrint, variable blends with Piezotone inksets, even I am impressed. So all my dinking around and reporting minutia, declining over the years anyway, will be scarcer. Wish me luck, and good luck Roy, really impressed. Tyler
