14-bit scanner - a disadvantage? (Canon FS4000)

14-bit scanner - a disadvantage? (Canon FS4000)

2003-10-28 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I've been waiting on a Minolta 5400 to arrive in my country and, while waiting, have read more mixed reviews about the 5400 - so I wondered if anyone had found the 14-bits per channel of the Canon to significantly worse than 16 bits per channel.

I recall mixed reviews of the Canon when it first came out, too - maybe it's par for the course.

thanks,
Richard

I'd be really surprised if either of them had a signal-to-noise ratio that
was anywhere near 14 bits.
